Innovating Beyond a First-Generation Software-as-a-Service System

Fare Payment System Consultant — Calgary Transit (Calgary, AB)

Calgary Transit is the public transit agency serving in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Calgary Transit operates light rail, urban tramway, bus rapid transit, paratransit, and conventional bus services. The system has over 140 million boardings a year. The fare payment system consists of a barcoded mobile application with an account-based back office, a standalone ticket vending machine system, and a manual paper ticket and pass system, along with cash payment on board buses. The agency contracted with CCG in 2025 to develop a comprehensive fare strategy, implementation roadmap and technical requirements to help lead them in procuring an integrated fare collection solution that is customer-friendly, efficient, and secure. CCG is working with the agency to assess its current system and operations, make technology and operations recommendations for the new system, develop a procurement strategy, independent cost estimate, and technical specifications for the future system procurement.
