Paradise found in solving the nation’s worst congestion

HOLO System – City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (Honolulu, HI)

Honolulu recently surpassed Los Angeles for the worst traffic congestion in the country. With mountains on one side and ocean on the other, expanding existing road infrastructure is not an option. The city is in the process of building a new elevated, automated rail line to bring rapid transportation to the island of Oahu, and it is electronic fare collection that will enable a seamless customer experience across all modes of transit (bus, rail, and paratransit). Members of our team have been involved since the project’s inception, defining the original vision for the project. Clevor Consulting Group (CCG) has been critical to the Department of Transportation (DTS) delivering on that vision, and to the successful rollout of the HOLO system on bus in 2018. The HOLO system is an account-based payment system, based on true open architecture, and integrated with a robust financial management solution. As the City has transitioned to operations, and prepares for the launch of rail, CCG staff have provided detailed operational training to agency staff and their contractors. Our team also recently developed technical specifications to support a planned enhancement to the system to support the acceptance open payments.
